Privacy policy

Last updated: 22 August 2026

LINFA respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit linfa.com.au or buy from us, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have under Australian privacy law.

We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

What we collect

We collect only what we need to sell you tea and keep the store running.

When you place an order

  • Name, delivery address, billing address
  • Email address and phone number
  • Payment details (processed by our payment providers — we do not store your card number)
  • Order history, preferences, and correspondence with us

When you subscribe to the Field Journal

  • Email address, and any preferences you tell us about

When you browse linfa.com.au

  • IP address, device type, browser, pages viewed, referring site
  • Cookies and similar technologies (see the Cookies section below)

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we hold information about a minor, contact us and we will delete it.

How we use it

  • To process and deliver your orders
  • To respond to your enquiries
  • To send you order updates and, if you've subscribed, the Field Journal
  • To improve the site, our tea range, and the shopping experience
  • To meet our legal, tax, and regulatory obligations
  • To detect and prevent fraud or misuse

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

Who we share it with

We share the minimum information needed with service providers who help us run the store:

  • Shopify — hosting, checkout, order management
  • Payment providers — Shopify Payments, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other processors you may choose at checkout
  • Shipping carriers — Australia Post, courier services, and international carriers, so they can deliver your order
  • Email platform — for order confirmations and the Field Journal
  • Analytics — anonymised or aggregated usage data to understand how the site is used

Some of these providers are based overseas (including the United States and Canada) and may store or process your information outside Australia. By using the site, you consent to that overseas transfer. We only use providers that offer reasonable data protection standards.

We may also disclose information where required by Australian law, a court order, or to protect our legal rights.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. You can turn cookies off in your browser settings, but parts of the store (like checkout) may not work properly without them.

Marketing

We only send you marketing emails if you have opted in — for example by subscribing to the Field Journal or ticking the marketing box at checkout. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email, or by writing to info@linfa.com.au.

How we keep it safe

We use reputable providers with encryption, access controls, and industry-standard security practices. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access.

Payment card details are handled by PCI-compliant payment providers. We do not see or store your full card number.

How long we keep it

We keep order information for at least seven years to meet Australian tax and consumer law obligations. Marketing subscriber information is kept until you unsubscribe. Browsing data is kept in aggregated form only.

Your rights

Under Australian privacy law you can:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct anything that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete your information, subject to any legal obligation we have to keep it
  • Withdraw consent to marketing at any time
  • Complain about how we have handled your information

To make any of these requests, email info@linfa.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Material changes will be flagged on the site or by email if you are a subscriber.
